Gai Jatra celebrated amidst terror [Photos]

KATHMANDU: AUGUST 23 – When there was no risk of coronavirus, Gai Jatra would be different in the main cities of the capital. Now, due to the risk of the coronavirus, those who go out to participate in the Gai Jatra are seen wearing masks.

It is seen that the people of the capital are walking around the city market by taking out Gai Jatra while maintaining physical distance amidst the risk of coronavirus with the new variant. Police have also been mobilized in large numbers to prevent the crowd from gathering. Within a year, only three to four members of the Gaijatra family left home to participate in Gai Jatra in memory of the deceased relatives.

This festival is celebrated in different parts of the country under different names till Bhadra Krishna Ashtami. For the first time this year, the government has given a public holiday to the Newar community across the country on the occasion of Gai Jatra. A public holiday has been given in Kathmandu Valley today on the occasion of Gai Jatra. Public leave has been given in Kathmandu Valley for a long time on the occasion of Gai Jatra.
