Five lakh vaccines arrived from Japan
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 23 – The AstraZeneca vaccine provided by the Japanese government has arrived in Nepal. A total of 559,000 vaccines provided by the Japanese government through the COVAX facility have arrived in Nepal today.
According to Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, 1,614,740 vaccines have already arrived from Japan.
Earlier, nine lakh doses of vaccine had arrived in Nepal on August 7 and 8 and two lakh eight thousand 700 on 21 August. He informed that the vaccine available from Japan will be given to the senior citizens of State 1 and 2. The ministry is vaccinating senior citizens above the age of 65 who were vaccinated last February. The government has brought the AstraZeneca vaccine with a grant from Japan after the Covishield vaccine purchased from India did not arrive.
Similarly, the spokesperson of the ministry, Dr Poudel, said that an additional 1.6 million doses of the Vero Cell vaccine will be received from China soon. He informed that regular vaccinations will be given to those below 50 years of age and those who are in priority.
About 14 million vaccines have been delivered in Nepal so far. So far, 49.42 million 250 people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 3.846 million 736 people have been fully vaccinated.
