Director General’s instruction to refund fees collected from MBBS students

KATHMANDU: AUGUST 22 – The Office of the Auditor-General has directed the medical colleges to refund the higher fees charged to the MBBS students in medical education. The directive was given in the 58th annual report of the Auditor-General which was made public on Friday.

The report also states that the government should refund more fees to the colleges that have collected more fees than prescribed by the government for MBBS studies.

As per the decision of the Council of Ministers on September 17, 2015, the student fee for undergraduate (MBBS) studies in medicine has been fixed at Rs. 3.85 million inside Kathmandu Valley and Rs. 4 million 42 thousand has been earmarked outside the Kathmandu Valley.

Similarly, a fee of Rs 1.83 million has been prescribed for BDS. Colleges charging higher fees have been instructed to take necessary action and return the higher fees to the students.
