Barcelona escaped defeat
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 22 – Barcelona has escaped defeat in the Spanish La Liga. In the second game of the new season, Barcelona drew 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao.
Athletico took the lead in the 50th minute through a goal by Inigo Martinez. But in the 75th minute, Memphis Depay equalized for Barcelona. Defender Eric Garcia was sent off in the 93rd minute for a red card, leaving Barcelona limited to 10 men.
Barcelona is without its star player Lionel Messi this season. Messi has signed a contract with PSG and there have been many comments about Barcelona’s game. However, he maintained the top spot by winning the first game and drawing the second.
In other games on Saturday night, Mallorca beat Elves 1-0, while Espanyol and Villarreal were goalless and Granada and Valencia drew 1-1.
