Maria raising funds for the child’s treatment from the Olympic medal auction
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 20 – Maria Andrejic, a Polish athlete who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has put her medal up for auction for the treatment of a child.
She has put the medal up for auction to raise money for an 8-month-old baby’s heart surgery. A total of 125,000 dollars has been collected from the medal auction.
Milosek Malysa, a Polish boy with serious heart problems, needed surgery. His family has stated that about 5 crore Nepali rupees is needed for his treatment. Of which, only half of the amount has been raised so far. Following the family’s appeal, Maria put her medal up for auction. Maria’s medal was bought by Polish supermarket chain Zabka Polska for 125,000 dollars.
His family is heading to the United States for treatment after a European country refused to treat the child. He is being treated at Stanford University Medical Center in California.
