KATHMANDU: AUGUST 20 – UML is going to be removed from the name of Madhav Kumar Nepal-led party. Nepal, which is divided by the CPN-UML, had applied to the Election Commission last Wednesday for registration of the CPN-UML (Socialist) under its leadership. However, after the commission asked them to come up with another name, Nepal decided to remove the UML and apply for re-registration.

Earlier, the commission had asked to submit the application in the format of the amended provision. After this, discussions are being held within the Nepal group. “Discussions are going on,” leader Metmani Chaudhary told Makalu Khabar.

According to the commission, as per the decision of the Supreme Court on March 7, another party cannot be registered by hanging an ‘adjective’ in the name of one party. After this, the Nepal group is discussing about removing ‘UML’ from the party’s name. “Maybe the UML will step down,” said Chaudhary. Almost the same can be removed.’

According to another leader, the name of the party will be the Communist Party of Nepal Unified Socialist or Communist Party of Nepal Socialist.

Does the Nepal Group apply today?

Leader Chaudhary says that he will file the petition today as much as possible. “After the discussion, there is a discussion about giving a tender to registration,” said Chaudhary. “Some issues are yet to be agreed upon.” We will come to a conclusion after some time. ‘

Earlier, there was controversy over the election symbol proposed by the group. Discussions are underway after the Advanced Democratic Party led by Swagat Nepal claimed that the open book was its election symbol.

The decision of March 7 is an obstacle

The Commission has stated that the name or symbol of any party cannot be registered if it matches the name or symbol of the existing party. An official of the commission informed Makalu Khabar that the Supreme Court had dismissed the then Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) on March 7 and revived the UML-Maoist.

Article 6 (e) of the Political Parties Act stipulates that if the name or symbol of the party registered with the Commission coincides with the name or symbol of the existing party, such party cannot be registered.
