KATHMANDU: AUGUST 20 – CPN-UML lawmakers have reached the office of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota demanding immediate posting of the resignation notice. UML lawmakers have reached the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar and put pressure on him to take action.

Earlier, a meeting of the UML Standing Committee had taken action against 14 lawmakers, including senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal. There is a parliamentary provision that the information should come from the Speaker. However, Speaker Sapkota has not released any information about it. After this, the leaders drew attention.

Among the speakers are Khagraj Adhikari, Gokul Prasad Baskota, Lal Babu Pandit, Shanta Chaudhary, Thammaya Thapa, Niru Pal, Rajendra Gautam and Krishna Pokharel. Leaders including UML Chief Whip Bishal Bhattarai had reached Singha Durbar on Thursday to demand the immediate release of 14 lawmakers. To the question, “Why the delay?”, Speaker Sapkota replied, “I will finish it soon.”

On Thursday, party chairperson KP Sharma Oli had warned Speaker Sapkota that he would not allow the parliament to function unless the notice of action against 14 people was immediately leaked.

If the parliament convenes within 15 days of the registration of the letter of action, it is the parliamentary practice to inform the House by posting a notice.
