KATHMANDU: AUGUST 20 – Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is in the top three of the UEFA Player of the Year, along with English club Chelsea’s midfielders N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. UEFA has announced the top three nominees for the 2020-21 season.

For the first time in the player of the year, three midfielders have got a chance. Belgium’s Kevin De Bruyne, who finished second last season, was instrumental in helping City win the Premier League title. He also played a key role in helping Chelsea reach the Champions League final. Cante missed the final due to injury.

However, Chelsea won the title. Chelsea’s Italian star Jorginho, on the other hand, has been instrumental in helping Chelsea win the Champions League as well as the European Championship. PSG’s Lionel Messi was joined by Callien Mbappe, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

For the award, UEFA selects the best players based on the performances of players in one season, from coaches from 24 European nations, 32 from last season’s Champions League and 48 from the Europa League, and 80 from European sports media. Players are selected. The coaches of the same club and nation will not be allowed to vote for their own players.

Three Barcelona players, Hermoso, Martins and Putellas, were shortlisted for the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year award. Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, Roberto Mancini of Italy and Thomas Tuchel of Chelsea were nominated for the coaching job. Cortes, Gerhardsson and Hayes were nominated in the top three for women’s coaching.

The winner will be announced on August 26. On the same day, the group division of the new season’s Champions League and Europa League will also take place.
