14 MPs including Madhav Nepal expelled from UML

KATHMANDU: AUGUST 17 – The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has expelled 14 lawmakers from the party, including senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal.

A meeting of the UML Standing Committee held on Tuesday expelled 14 people, including senior leader Nepal, from the party.

A letter has been sent to the Parliament Secretariat to dismiss UML MPs Mukunda Neupane, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Birodh Khatiwada, Metmani Chaudhary, Bhawani Thapa, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Laxmi Kumari Chaudhary, Niradevi Jairu, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Sarala Yadav, Kalila Khatun, Krishnalal Maharjan and Kalyani Khadka.

The government had recommended the ordinance to the President at a meeting of the Council of Ministers today (Tuesday). At the same time, the provision in the Political Parties Act stipulates that the number of Central Committee and Parliamentary parties should be increased from 40 per cent to 20 per cent.
