KATHMANDU: AUGUST 16 – Newly-appointed Lumbini Chief Minister Kul Prasad KC ‘Sonam’ is taking a vote of confidence on Wednesday (August 18). KC, who was appointed as the Chief Minister on August 18 is going to get the vote of confidence. “The chief minister is taking a vote of confidence from Percy,” Virendra Kumar Kanodia, leader of the ruling Nepali Congress parliamentary party, told Makalukhbar.

After the party of the outgoing Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel, the CPN-UML fell in the minority, the alliance of the Congress, JSP and Rastriya Janamorcha along with the UCPN (Maoist) had urged the state chief Amik Sherchan to form a government as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution. According to the alliance formed at the center, the outgoing Chief Minister Pokharel had resigned after 41 members of the state alliance handed over a letter of this nature to the state chief Sherchan. After that, KC became the Chief Minister.

Constitutionally, a vote of confidence must be taken from the House within a month of being appointed as the Chief Minister. However, KC is going to take it soon. “The government could not move fast until a vote of confidence was taken,” Kanodia said. “Then the government can move forward.”

The state now has a seven-member cabinet. Under the leadership of Chief Minister KC, 1/1 of the UCPN-M, 3 of the JSP and independent MP Ajay Shahi have become ministers. However, 4 of them are non-departmental. Similarly, the new government will reconsider the budget, Kanodia said. Noting that the previous government did not bring the budget in a balanced way, Kanodia said, “Some modifications may be made.”
