Nepalis who went to Afghanistan unofficially are being searched: Ministry of Foreign Affairs
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 15 – The government has said that there are only 1,400 Nepalis in Afghanistan.
During a discussion at the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations on Sunday, Foreign Secretary Bharat Poudel said that the government had information that there were 1,400 Nepalis in Afghanistan so far and that efforts were being made to find out if there were any other Nepalis there.
He says the Nepal government is trying to understand Nepalis working informally in Afghanistan. Secretary Poudel said that the Government of Nepal was not aware of the reports that 14,000 Nepalis were working in the media in Afghanistan.
The 1,400 Nepalis who formally left are in the capital, Kabul and he also claimed that everyone was safe.
According to Secretary Poudel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali Embassy in Pakistan, which also oversees Afghanistan, have urged Nepalis living in Afghanistan to register online.
Secretary Poudel also said that most of the formal Nepalis are working in international missions and organizations there.
