Celebrating Nag Panchami by worshiping Nag [Photos]
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 13 – Nag Panchami, which is celebrated every year on the day of Shrawan Shukla Panchami, is being celebrated today by worshipping the snake as per tradition. Even though there are twelve names of snakes, there is a tradition from time immemorial to worship eight snakes of eight clans.
Eight snakes including Ananta, Vasuki, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Kulir, Karkat and Shankha are worshipped by Brahmin priests on this day and pasted on the door of the house. Nowadays, it is believed that snakes should not be mined in the fields and snakes and other reptiles should not be killed.

According to Vedic beliefs, the serpent is considered the king of snakes. According to theologians, there is a tradition of worshipping the snake to make it happy. From this morning onwards, Nagpokhari and Toudah of Kathmandu, Siddhapokhari of Bhaktapur, Nagdah, Kunda and Nag places all over the country are especially worshipped and cow’s milk, Akshata, Dubo (Scutch grass), Rice Pudding and Roti are offered with respect to the snake.
It is believed that the sages established the ritual of worshipping snakes after scientifically confirming that the poisonous substances in nature are exploited by snakes, snakes and other creatures and do not allow humans and other species to be affected by the poisonous substances.
