KATHMANDU: AUGUST 12 – The examination for a driver’s license will not be opened even in Bhadra (August).

Earlier, the Department of Transport Management had prepared to apply for the written and experimental examination for the license from August 17. Accordingly, around 600,000 applicants were preparing for the license exam in the hope of opening it. However, the Director-General of the Department, Namaraj Ghimire, said that it was not possible to conduct the examination in Bhadra (August) as the new infection of COVID-19 has spread rapidly.

“The infection is spreading rapidly. The government is pursuing a policy of tightening the prohibitory order by shutting down services in schools, colleges and crowded places,” he said. We did not get permission from CCMC. ‘

More than 600,000 youths are ready to get driver’s license every year. There is a provision to get a license after reaching the age of 18. However, due to the lack of regular examinations, the number of candidates waiting for licenses is increasing.

About 600,000 people have applied for the license exam even before the prohibitory order. The department estimates that about 700,000 people are ready to apply for licenses. On this basis, about 1.3 million people across the country are currently waiting to get new licenses.

Similarly, 2 million people have obtained smart licenses since the government started distributing smart licenses. Although 700,000 people have applied for smart licenses, they have not been able to get them. Drivers have to wait a long time for smart licenses due to delays in the process of printing and distribution of licenses.

On this basis, currently, 2.7 million people across the country have passed the license exam and obtained licenses. 1.3 million are waiting to get a license.
