The rice brought for distribution rotted in the godown
DAILEKH: AUGUST 10 – The rice purchased for distribution to the people of Naumule Village Municipality remained in the godown for two years. A total of 155 sacks of rice have been buried in the presence of the local administration and police that was brought for hail victims, the Village Municipality has bought food from the food depot and brought it for cheap distribution.
More than five trucks of rice were procured and distributed in some wards to prevent the locals from starving after the hail destroyed maize and paddy crops. Bhupendra Shahi, acting chief administrative officer of the Village Municipality, said that it was a matter of two years before he was given the responsibility and the spoiled rice was disposed of. He said that the rice was spoiled after being in the godown for a long time due to the constant problem of COVID-19 in the village.
Local Chhetra Pratap Subedi said that the aggrieved group demanded action against the concerned officials as the rice purchased from the taxes paid by the people should be distributed to the poor and helpless people on time.
