AstraZeneca vaccine is administered, 144 centers in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 9 – From today, senior citizens are being given the second dose of the Covishield vaccine. Senior citizens will receive the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The first dose of Covishield was administered last March to senior citizens over the age of 65 and 1.4 million others to be vaccinated with AstraZeneca, a vaccine provided by Japan and Bhutan.
Last March, the first dose of the Covishield vaccine, developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and produced by the Serum Institute of India, was administered. The second dose was supposed to be given in 12 weeks but the second dose was delayed due to the non-availability of the vaccine purchased by India.
It has been decided to give the second dose to the people going abroad for foreign employment, study and other purposes. Patients with kidney failure, dialysis, organ transplants and cancer patients will be vaccinated with AstraZeneca.
There are 144 vaccination centres in Kathmandu alone. The second dose of the Vero Cell vaccine, which was administered earlier, will be administered to AstraZeneca vaccines from today.
