KATHMANDU: AUGUST 9 – CPN-UML Standing Committee and Central Committee meeting is being held today. The standing committee meeting will start at 11 am at Tulsilal Smriti Bhawan and the central committee meeting will start at 3 pm, said party office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang. According to Secretary Tamang, the meeting will focus on the tenth general convention.

Party president KP Sharma Oli had earlier transformed the central committee into the tenth general convention organizing committee. However, it was not recognized by the Supreme Court. After that, he returned to the Central Committee. Deputy leader of the parliamentary party Subash Chandra Nemwang says, “Now the Central Committee will make the necessary arrangements and work for the general convention.”

What happens to the dispute?

There is a long-standing dispute between the two UML factions. The dispute between party president Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has not yet reached a ‘safe landing’. As a result, parallel activities are also taking place in the UML.

The establishment party could not do anything even if the previous meeting was a decisive meeting on the issue of party unity. Along with Nemwang, leaders including Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Prithivi Subba Gurung are in favour of party unity. After this, they are harassing party president Oli. After this, Chairman Oli has also shown some flexibility.

Earlier, after giving a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Oli, who was further irritated with Nepal, had declared that Nepal had no place in the party. After that, despite the coordination of the second-tier leaders, an attempt was made to find a meeting between Oli and Nepal, but Nepal did not agree.

Nepal has not even agreed to the 10 points made by the task force. Though it was clearly written in the 10-point preamble about the party’s return on 16 May 2018, Nepal has expressed dissatisfaction saying that nothing has been written about the party’s return on 12 March 2021.

A leader told Makalu Khabar that the dispute will also be discussed in today’s meeting. According to him, discussions are going on continuously among the leaders. “It’s not a big deal to have a discussion,” he said. No conclusions can be drawn on this issue today. ‘
