KATHMANDU: AUGUST 8 – Nepal Landless Squatters Association has protested against the dismissal of the Land Problem Resolution Commission. The organization has staged a protest in Koteshwor, Kathmandu, alleging that the squatters have been axed by dismissing the Land Commission.

Participants in the demonstration chanted slogans such as “Restore the Land Issue Resolution Commission”. UML MP and chairperson of the organization Shanta Chaudhary, who participated in the protest, accused the government of attacking the people. She warned that if the decision to dismiss the commission is not reversed, there will be strong agitation.

The government led by the then Prime Minister CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had formed a commission under the chairmanship of Devi Prasad Gyawali on 15 April 2020 to distribute land to landless squatters and squatters. The current government had decided to dismiss the commission.
