KATHMANDU: AUGUST 8 – The Summer Olympics, which has been going on in Tokyo, Japan since July 23, is coming to a formal end today. The closing ceremony will start at 4:45 pm Nepali time.

The competition was held in 339 events in 33 different sports at the Tokyo Olympics. On the last day, 8 gold medals are being won today. Five new games were added to the Olympics. These included softball, karate, surfing, skateboarding and climbing.

So far, China tops the list with 38 golds, followed by the United States with 36 golds and Japan with 27 golds. The Russian Olympic Committee won 27 golds, followed by Great Britain with 20 and Australia with 17. Similarly, Netherlands, Germany and Italy have won 10 gold medals each. Other countries have not won gold in the double digits.

Today, water polo, women’s volleyball, gymnastics, men’s marathons, cycling tack, women’s handball, jumping and boxing are being played. Sweden has won gold in today’s jumping. Kenyan sprinter Eliud Kipchoge also won the gold medal in the men’s marathon.
