Leicester beat Manchester City to win the Community Shield
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 8 – Leicester City beat Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 to win the Community Shield. Leicester’s only goal from the penalty spot was decisive in the final at Wembley.
Leicester City won the Community Shield for the second time in 50 years. They had previously won the title of Community Shield in 1971. For Leicester, Kelechi Iheanacho ensured the team’s victory through a penalty.
Iheanacho scored from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. Leicester were awarded a penalty with the help of VAR after City’s Nathan Ake fouled Iheanacho in the penalty area.
Manchester City has won the Community Shield six times. Premier League winners and FA Cup winners compete in the Community Shield finals.
Jack Grealish, who reached City at a record price through this final, also made his debut for City through this game. Greece entered the field in place of Samuel in the 65th minute of the game.
