Kanjirowa, including school for all students from middle-class families
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 5 – Kanjirowa School has been established for 24 years. So far, more than 10,000 students have studied at Kanjirowa in Koteshwor Balkumari. Kanjirowa was formerly known as the Don Bosco School.
Mahendra Khanal, executive director of the school, informed that there are around 1,200 students in Kanjirowa up to class 12. He said that the entire educational program of the science and management faculty is being run at the +2 level.
He says that the Kanjirowa School, which has implemented the curriculum of the Government of Nepal, also keeps in mind the progressive teaching system.
Khanal, who has spent 30 years of his life in educational activities and learning, has been sharing his experiences and suffering with the students through Kanjirowa School. Khanal, who has spent 20 years in Sanothimi, one of the most prestigious SOS schools in Nepal, says, “Such an experience will make school operations easier.”
Non-stop educational activities in COVID-19
The global coronavirus epidemic has wreaked havoc on the economy and education. As soon as the first phase of lockdown started, parents from rural areas moved to the village with their children. Kanjirowa School, like other schools, had to face a difficult situation due to the lack of a long-term plan. But students and parents have been greatly relieved after they started online classes in the first phase of lockdown, says Executive Director Khanal.
“We had no plans. However, since the class had to be conducted, we started the online class from the very beginning. In the beginning, not only the lack of students but also many other problems were seen. We are far behind in technology. This is what we realized then. We had to train ourselves, our parents, our teachers and even our students. The most challenging task is to introduce the teacher to the technology and make them run the class, ‘he says.
He said that now it is more comfortable than before. “Now, almost two years after the epidemic, everything is getting easier and simpler. All students take classes. Coronavirus can no longer affect our educational activities and educational quality. Now, our students are able to do more research, participate in discussions and meetings in different countries, and watch experimental activities in other countries online, ”said Khanal.
Stating that it should be seen as good and beneficial, he said that no educational program of Kanjirowa School has been stopped and it is being conducted continuously even in difficult circumstances.
Access to middle-class students
Khanal claims that Kanjirowa School is more affordable for children from low-income families than many other schools in Kathmandu. Khanal said that the fee has been fixed so as not to be surprised by the services provided by the school while maintaining the educational quality of his school. He also claimed that the school has been adding a few per cent to the 10 per cent scholarship stipulated by the government.
Executive Director Khanal says, ‘Since the recommendation comes from the local level, there is no guarantee that the scholarship provided by us and the Government of Nepal has reached the right place and person. But the school teaches students on scholarships every year. ‘
Under other circumstances, Kanjirowa would add up to 16 per cent of the government’s 10 per cent scholarship to their students. But now, in the coronavirus epidemic, the school has not been able to provide such scholarships, he said. However, he said that only 60 per cent of the fee was collected from the students. Khanal says, ‘There has been no reduction in our expenditure. We are paying everything from the rent of physical infrastructure to the salary and service facilities of the employees. But we have collected only 60 per cent fee from the students. Because now is the time for everyone to suffer. We don’t want to make a profit in this moment of crisis. ”
Mentioning that their students are needed for a long time, he claimed that they are working to protect the educational quality and reputation of the school rather than charging high fees as the school is run with the help and support of the students. As they are targeting middle-class families, the school has also expressed its commitment to never embarrass that class.
Priority to experimental and practical education
Khanal claims that in the midst of increasing urbanization, the school has emphasized not only theoretical but also practical education. “Before the epidemic, we used to take students on trips every year to explain the culture and customs from east to west,” he said. We have made it difficult for our students to walk. ‘
Recalling that his students even slept in the cowshed, he said that such visits would teach them about the way of life, culture and way of life of the society.
‘It teaches us how to adjust to the most difficult situations and lifestyles. Education should always be useful for life. Learning should be useful in survival. This is what Kanjirowa School has always focused on. After some visits, the students have even used abusive language. They say we will not go from now on. ‘
Stating that every learning brings happiness to the minor and some big changes brought in the life of the students, he said that the school believes that the manpower they produce should be capable in every aspect.
