Kishore was first married in 1950 to singer and actress Ruma Guha Thakurta. After eight years of marriage, their relationship began to fall apart and they eventually divorced. Kishore and Ruma have a son Amit Kumar. He is a singer. Ruma passed away in June 2019.

After breaking up with Ruma, Kishore married actress Madhubala. Kishore and Madhubala were working together in many movies and fell in love. They got married in 1960. But after the marriage, it was discovered that there was a ventricular septal defect (hole in the heart) in Madhubala’s heart. Kishore took her to London for treatment. Madhubala died a few years after the marriage.
