Gurung, the state chief of Gandaki, took charge
POKHARA: AUGUST 2 – Newly appointed Gandaki Chief Prithvi Man Gurung has taken charge. A week ago, the state chiefs were manipulated in two states. Lumbini state chief Amik Sherchan has already started work while Gurung of Gandaki took charge on Monday.
He was welcomed by Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel Speaker Netra Nath Adhikari, Ministers and MPs and representatives of various political parties and staff. This is the fourth time that the state chief has returned to Gandaki. Due to the political instability, different comments have been made on federalism after the return of the state chief. Initially, Baburam Kunwar was appointed as the state chief of the Nepali Congress. When the Congress and the Maoists had a joint government.
Later, Congress withdrew from the government and the UML and the Maoists formed an alliance. Amik Sherchan was sent to the Maoists as the state chief. Even after the UCPN (M) -UML alliance broke down, the UML sent its own party leader Sita Kumari Poudel as the state chief. Now the federal government has returned. The Congress-led Maoists, a faction of the UML and the JSP are in government.
UML-appointed provincial chiefs have been replaced by Congress and UCPN-M-affiliated provincial chiefs. The newly-appointed state chief Gurung is a Congress leader. In Lumbini, Maoist leader (formerly Gandaki state chief) Amik Sherchan has become the state chief. During his tenure, he expressed his commitment to work for the rights and interests of the state under the constitution.
