KATHMANDU: AUGUST 2 – Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will captain the Kathmandu Kings XI in the fourth edition of the Everest Premier League (EPL) scheduled to be held at the Tribhuvan Stadium in Kirtipur from the second week of August 25.

Kathmandu Kings XI has announced that former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will play as a foreign player. Kathmandu Kings informed Sandeep on Monday that he would be the captain.

Monday is also Sandeep’s 21st birthday. Taking this opportunity, Kathmandu Kings made him public as the captain. Vice-captain of the Nepali cricket team Dipendra Singh Airee was also among the claimants of the captaincy of Kathmandu Kings. Earlier, the captain was Sompal Kami. Sompal has now joined the Chitwan Tigers.

Sandeep had played the first two games in 2018 from Lalitpur. He then travelled to Australia for the Big Bash League. Since then, Sandeep has not played in the Nepali franchise league.

In the domestic competition, Sandeep captained Kathmandu Mayor-11 in the Kathmandu Mayor’s Cup. Kathmandu Kings has also demanded an open application for the post of head coach. Earlier, Binod Das was the head coach of Kathmandu Kings in the 2018 edition.

Binod, who is also the former captain of the Nepali cricket team, was appointed as the manager of the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) last December. Kathmandu Kings is now looking for a head coach. The EPL is scheduled to be held at the TU ground from August 25 to September 8.
