Sharma appointed Acting chief of army

KATHMANDU: AUGUST 1 – On the recommendation of the government, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has appointed Rathi Prabhuram Sharma as the Chief of Army Staff.

‘Honorable President Vidyadevi Bhandari is currently in seniority.  No. 1353 Military Act Shri Prabhuram Sharma has been appointed as the Acting Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army with effect from 2078/4/26 as recommended by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal dated 2078/4/12 as per sub-section (3) of section 8 of the Military Act, 2063 BS. A statement issued by the President’s Office on Sunday said,

A cabinet meeting on Tuesday recommended Sharma as acting chief of staff.

As the three-year term of the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army, Purnachandra Thapa, expires on August 8 and he has been on home leave from August 9, Sharma will assume the responsibility of acting Chief of Army Staff with effect from August 10.

On the basis of preference, Sharma is the next chariot after Chief of Army Staff Thapa.
