Melamchi floods swept away suspension bridges, damaged more than a dozen houses [Photos]
SINDHUPALCHOWK: AUGUST 1 – The flood that came at midnight has made Melamchi Bazar muddy again and some houses have been washed away. The floods that swept through Helambu on Saturday evening have caused further damage in the coastal areas of Helambu Village Municipality and Melamchi town.

According to Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchowk, Arun Pokharel, the floods have damaged six houses in the Kiul area of Helambu and six houses in Melamchi Bazar of Melamchi. No casualties were reported as the people were evacuated, he said, adding that sirens have been installed in two places to assess the possibility of floods.
The floods have also destroyed the Radio Melamchi building and the Talamarang Police Post building. Pokharel informed that the red bridge of Chanaute was also washed away. The bridge was the only alternative connecting Melamchi-7 and 8, Panchpokhari 1 and 2 and many wards of Helambu. With the collapse of the bridge, traffic in the area has been closed.

Earlier, Melamchi was also flooded on June 15. According to the police, five people have lost their lives and 20 others have not been found yet.
