Floods again in Melamchi, damage to some houses
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 1 – Melamchi of Sindhupalchowk has been flooded again last night. The Melamchi River was flooded at around 9 pm with wood, firewood, large stones and mud.
The floods have damaged some houses and displaced the police post in Talamarang. According to the Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchowk, Arun Pokharel, the river is flowing from the middle of Chanaute Bazar.
No casualties have been reported as evacuations have already been made, he said, adding that sirens have been installed in two places to assess the possibility of floods.
According to him, the Melamchi river has changed its shape. It is estimated that the flood came after a landslide in Hemathanka Chaur of Helambu Village Municipality-1. Earlier, the floods on July 20 had caused severe damage in Helambu and Melamchi districts.
