Hearing on the case of 4 former Maoist leaders postponed
KATHMANDU: JULY 30 – The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of a case filed by four ‘former MPs’ seeking reinstatement. Following the petition of the writ petitioner, the case was adjourned in the court of Judge Ananda Mohan Bhattarai on Friday. Writ petitioner Prabhu Shah’s heir Birendra Pratap Shah had applied for an adjournment of the hearing.
The next hearing of the writ petition will be held on Sunday, the Supreme Court said. Earlier, the writ petition was kept on the bench of Justice Deepak Kumar Karki on Thursday.
UML standing committee members Lekhraj Bhatta and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, central members Prabhu Shah and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary had filed a writ petition on Wednesday seeking reinstatement of their parliamentary seats. They had filed the case against the Chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament, the Election Commission and others.
They had filed a writ petition seeking reversal of the opposition’s decision to release him from the post. Dahal, the leader of the Maoist parliamentary party, had written a letter to the secretary-general of the federal parliament on 6 April 2021 informing that the party had taken action against four lawmakers and left the party.
Two days later, the speaker announced that his post was vacant.
