Nepal’s challenge ended with Saraswati’s exit

KATHMANDU: JULY 30 – Saraswati Chaudhary, a Nepali athletic athlete, has given a normal performance in the women’s 100-meter race under the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In the race held on Friday morning, Saraswati finished her race in 12.91 seconds and finished eighth in her heat.

Saraswati, who was in the second heat in the 100-meter race, defeated the Saudi player. In the second heat, besides Nepal and Saudi Arabia, there were players from Iran, Guam, Chinese Taipei, Monaco, Malaysia and Laos. In this heat, Fasihi Farzaneh of Iran became the first by completing the 100-meter race in 11.76 seconds.

Twenty-seven athletes have competed in the women’s 100-meter dash at the Olympics, and the top three of the nine athletes in the heat will advance to the second round. Saraswati has failed to reach the second stage. Players from Iran, Malaysia and Kuwait have reached the second round from the second heat.

Saraswati’s performance at the Tokyo Olympics is average. She couldn’t even improve her personal best time in this competition. Earlier, she clocked 12.72 seconds at the World Championships in Qatar in 2019 and then 12.55 seconds on the 13th.

Nepal’s national record in the 100-meter race is held by Devi Maya Paneru. She set a national record by completing the 100-meter dash at 12.19 in the 1999 South Asian Games. At the same time, Nepal’s challenge in the Tokyo Olympics is over.

Nepal had five athletes participate in the Tokyo Olympics. Three of them set national records. In swimming, Alex Shah and Gaurika Singh set a record in the 100-meter freestyle and Kalpana Pariyar set a record in the 10-meter air rifle but failed to reach the second round. In judo, Sonia Bhatta was also limited to the first round.
