MoU signed between NEC and local road bridge unit

KATHMANDU: JULY 29 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Nepal Engineering College (NEC) and the local road bridge unit for the development and implementation of the bridge design curriculum. In the memorandum of understanding, the principal of the college Pvt. Dr Harikrishna Shrestha and Team Leader Engineer Sakil Manandhar signed the agreement on behalf of the local road bridge unit.

During the signing ceremony, Engineer Chuman Babu Shrestha of the local road bridge unit and Dr Tusita Chandani Shahi was also present. In order to implement the MoU, the two organizations have agreed to prepare a course on how to pay attention to technical aspects and how to design agile bridges to build sustainable bridges on local roads in Nepal.

There are also provisions to provide data and travel expenses if students want to project on the same subject. Dozens of bridges are collapsing every year in the monsoon season due to poor design and supervision. After the implementation of the MoU, the bridge construction technology is expected to improve significantly and produce competent engineers.
