KATHMANDU: JULY 29 – President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has expressed confidence that the target number of tigers will be achieved as per the commitment made by Nepal at the international level.

Giving a good wishes message on the occasion of World Tiger Day today, President Bhandari expressed happiness over the fact that Nepal has set a target of doubling the number of tigers from 121 to 250 by 2022 as the base year of 2010 and now the number has reached 235.

She said that Nepal has succeeded in giving a special message to the world by achieving remarkable results in tiger conservation. The President’s message stated that there is a big challenge to revive the tiger’s existence in the face of the crisis.

“Such positive results have been achieved through the management of tiger habitats, the protection of tiger poaching and illegal trade, the protection of security forces, including the Nepal Army, the participation of locals in the intermediate zone and the continued cooperation of various national and international partners.” “In order to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, it is imperative to conserve biodiversity and conserve tigers that have a positive impact on clean and healthy ecosystems,” the message said.
