Alex’s national record in 1st Heat ‚Will he reach the semifinals?
KATHMANDU: JULY 27 – Alexander (Alex) Shah, a swimmer from Nepal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, has set a national record in the men’s 100m freestyle. Despite being the 1st heat the national record, his chances of reaching the previous round are slim.
In Tuesday’s event, Alex set a new national record by completing the required distance in 53.41 seconds. He improved on his previous record of 55.38 seconds. The top 16 players from the 1st heat will make it to the semifinals.
A total of 71 people are competing in the 1st heat. There are 7 players in the 1st heat including Alex and 8-8 players in the others. To reach the next stage of Alex’s time, his time has to be in the top 16. Which is very unlikely. Only 16 people who get the best timing from all heats will reach the semifinals.
If competition continues in other hits, the final result will come soon. Earlier, the challenge of two Nepali players ended in the first round on Saturday. Judo’s Sonia Bhatta competed in the 48 kg weight category and Kalpana Pariyar in the shooting competed in the 10m air rifle. Kalpana had managed to set a national record.
