Does the JSP dispute end today?
KATHMANDU: JULY 26 – The People’s Socialist Party, which split into two groups during the power equation, is likely to receive official approval from the Election Commission on Monday. Leader Mahendra Raya Yadav, who was on his way to the Election Commission, told Makalu Khabar, “We will get the official status.” The Election Commission has said that it will resolve the dispute through identification. We are going accordingly. We have the majority. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there. ”
The Election Commission (EC) has today summoned the members of the party’s Central Executive Committee with full citizenship to resolve the dispute over the party’s official status. After this, the leaders are reaching the commission. The commission had formed a bench to resolve the dispute over the legitimacy of the party and had requested to attend the party unification on July 22 with the documents attached.
Accordingly, the People’s Socialist Party’s chairpersons Upendra Yadav and Mahanta Thakur’s executive members appeared before the commission at 11 am for identification. After the identification, the commission will probably announce the decision regarding the officiality today. Election Commission spokesperson Raj Kumar Shrestha told Makalu Khabar, “After the identification work, the dispute will probably end today and the officiality will be announced.”
People’s Socialist Party has a 51-member executive committee. The party had registered with the Election Commission on 8 July 2020. When power was shared in the government led by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the People’s Socialist Party was divided into two groups. Thakur’s party was in the government while Yadav’s party was in the opposition. Both sides had gone to the commission demanding party officiality. The last time Sher Bahadur Deuba became the prime minister, both sides voted in favor.
Lately, especially after the formation of the coalition government, some leaders of Thakur’s party have sided with Yadav. More executive members are in favor of Yadav, who is sure to join the government.
Meanwhile, before the commission’s decision, Chairman Thakur’s party had filed a writ petition at the apex court demanding officiality and stopping the party split. Refusing to issue an interim order on the writ on Sunday, the Supreme Court had ordered to call both the parties for discussion on July 30.
