ITAHARI: JULY 25 – Ten thousand tree saplings were planted in Sunsari on Thursday. Commemorating the 43rd memorial day of Puspalal Shrestha, Nepal’s communist party founder, National Youth Federation (NYF) organized the district-wide tree saplings plantation drive.
According to the district chairperson of NYF, Arun Gurung, all local units of NYF had engaged in the plantation drive across the district. He said barren public lands and areas with scant forest were main sites for tree plantation.
The plantation was carried out in two sub-metropolitan cities, four municipalities and two rural municipalities of the district, informed Sunil Karki, the media focal person of the plantation campaign. He added, ”We planted a tree sapling in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City, Inaruwa Municipality, Duhabi Municipality, Ramdhuni Municipality, Barahakshetra Municipality as well as two rural municipalities namely Koshi Rural Municipality and Gadhi Municipality covering all eight local governments.”
Karki said 1,000 tree saplings along with a protective bamboo bucket were planted in each of the local units of the district. Karki added additional 2,000 tree saplings were planted in Sardu watershed area of Dharan. ”Sardu watershed area is recently taken back from land mafia after winning the legal battle in the time of former minister Padma Aryal”, said Kraki, ”Therefore, we gave high priority tree plantation in this important area.”
