BEIRUT: JULY 24 – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Friday that more than 4 million people, including one million refugees, were at risk of losing access to safe water in Lebanon.

According to UNICEF, the growing economic crisis in Lebanon, the lack of funds, the lack of fuel and supplies such as chlorine and spare parts have led to the risk of gradual water pump shutdowns across the country in the next four weeks.

Yukie Mokuo, UNICEF Representative for Lebanon, said: “The current economic crisis in Lebanon makes it difficult to keep drinking water resources intact due to the risk of drinking water equipment procurement, maintenance, lack of proper water management and distribution electricity, and rising fuel prices.” It will affect a large population. ‘

UNICEF has said that if the public drinking water system breaks down, collecting water for private drinking water suppliers could increase the cost of water by 200 per cent per month.
