BANGKOK: JULY 23 – Thailand reported a fresh high of 14,575 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the seventh consecutive day when the country has registered over 10,000 daily cases.

With the latest addition, Thailand’s total caseload rose to 467,707, of which some 90 per cent were recorded in the last three months, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

There were 114 more deaths, taking the number of fatalities in the Southeast Asian country to 3,811.

Of the new infections, 6,085 were detected in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces, which have been hardest-hit in the latest surge in cases mainly driven by the highly contagious Delta variant.

Since Friday, more venues in Bangkok have been ordered to close in an effort to curb rising COVID-19 infections.

As of Thursday, the country has administered about 15.4 million doses of vaccine with 3.5 million people fully vaccinated out of a population of nearly 70 million.

Thailand has planned to inoculate 70 per cent of its population by the end of this year.
