3 killed, 7 injured after house collapses in India’s Mumbai

MUMBAI: JULY 23 – At least three persons were killed and seven others were injured after a ground plus one structure of a house collapsed in North East suburb of Mumbai on Friday morning.

Some of the injured are in critical condition and have been admitted to a nearby hospital, local police officials said.

A team from the disaster management cell of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation and a fire brigade have reached the site for the rescue operation.

The incident took place in the Govandi area of Northeast Mumbai following heavy rainfall in India’s financial capital for the past few days.

So far, in July, the city has received 1,040 mm rainfall and this is the fourth successive year where rains in this month have breached the 1000 mm mark while the normal rainfall for July as per past records stood at 827 mm, according to the weather bureau officials.

Prior to this unfortunate incident on Friday, Mumbai has so far witnessed 42 rain-related deaths this year.
