Decrepit Mahakali suspension bridge creates problems for the locals
KANCHANPUR: JULY 22 – Due to the dilapidated condition of a suspension bridge over the Mahakali River, residents of Dodhara Chandani Municipality are having difficulty reaching Mahendranagar, the district headquarters.
Despite this, locals have been using the bridge to get to Mahendranagar because it is the shortest route to the district headquarters.
The steel deck of the bridge has been discovered broken due to rusting. Similarly, other parts and joints have been discovered to be damaged. Since the truss and bridge angles’ nuts and bolts have rusted and become loose, the risk of the bridge collapsing has become apparent.
Suspension bridge cable is prone to corrosion damage in various parts. The suspension bridge’s main cables, which are made up of many wires, are frequently fractured and critical in several places.
Bir Bahadur Sunar, the mayor of the Municipality, has stated that the police have been mobilised to control the speed and limitation of motorbikes in the area. They have restricted the transport of heavyweight (over 50 kg) vehicles across the bridge.
However, the Sudurpaschim Province government must repair and maintain the bridge at Rs 6 million. In 2061 BS, at a cost of Rs 94 million, 241 thousand was built to form the largest suspension bridge (1,452m).
