KATHMANDU: JULY 21 – BP Koirala passed away on 6 Shrawan 2039 at the age of 67. His death from cancer was a matter of concern not only to Nepalis but also to foreigners.

The news of the death of BP, who had participated in various South Asian freedom struggles from Socialist International, United Nations, was also reported by the prestigious American newspaper New York Times. The news of his death was published in the Shrawan 7 edition of the New York Times. Koirala, who was in a coma in a Thai hospital while undergoing treatment for lung cancer, died within two hours of boarding a flight to Nepal, the New York Times reported.

Koirala has been portrayed as a short-lived prime minister in a Western-style parliamentary government. He has been described as a democratic leader of the BP, having served as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1960, then by Mahendra, before he emigrated to India in 1968, and again after his arrival in Nepal in 1976.
