Taliban militants overrun district in Afghanistan’s southern Uruzgan province

TIRIN KUT, AFGHANISTAN: JULY 19 – Militants affiliated with the Afghan Taliban have overrun Dihrawud district in the southern Uruzgan province, a local official said Monday.

The official on condition of anonymity confirmed that the Dihrawud district has fallen to the armed insurgents on Monday.

In the meantime, Mohammad Omar Shirzad, the governor for Uruzgan province in talks with Xinhua said that “the security personnel made a tactical retreat and reached Tirin Kot city last night” and the security forces would fortify the security of provincial capital Tirin Kot.

Taliban militants have confirmed the fall of Dihrawud and the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in contact with media said that the militants had overrun Dihrawud district.

According to Mujahid, the Taliban have already captured five districts of Uruzgan and with the capture of Dihrawud, all districts of Uruzgan are in the Taliban’s hand and the group would continue to tighten the noose around the provincial capital Tirin Kot city.
