POKHARA: JULY 18 – Dozens of organizations have been opened for the conservation of Pokhara’s Phewa Lake. There are more group committees for sanitation than that. The master plan is made every year. But the master plan will not be opened and implemented even for a decade. A new master plan of Phewa Lake is being prepared now. If only the work had been done according to the old master plan, this plight of Phewa Lake would not have happened.

The lake mixes 140,000 metric tons of gegran annually. The check dam built to stop it collapsed less than two years ago due to low quality. Phewa Lake which was once 10 sq km, is now 5.8 sq km. There is not enough water in this area.

The process of making a fence by filling the border area of the lake is intensifying day by day. The lake becomes ugly due to the water hyacinth weeds that always flow from the upper bank. The government bodies have not been able to manage it in time and there has been no warning from the citizens.
