Italy beat England to win Euro title
KATHMANDU: JULY 12 – Italy beat England 3-2 in a tiebreaker to win the Euro 2020 title. The final at Wembley Stadium in London ended in a 1-1 draw in extra time before a penalty shootout ensued.
Italy’s Belotti and Jorginho’s shots were saved by England goalkeeper Pickford. Federico Bernardeski, Bonucci and Berradi scored for Italy. Three England players missed a penalty.
Marcus Rashford’s shot hit the pole, while Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka’s shots were blocked by Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma. Captains Harry Kane and Harry Maguire scored from the penalty spot for England.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw between England and Italy in the scheduled 90 minutes and the game was extended to 30 minutes of extra time. The game was decided by a tiebreaker after both teams failed to score in extra time.
Luke Shaw opened the scoring for England in the second minute and Leonardo Bonucci equalized for Italy in the 67th minute.
Italy have reached the final for the fourth time in the history of the Euro Cup. Italy has won the 1968 Euro Cup only once before. Similarly, playing in the finals in 2000 and 2012, they were satisfied by the runner-up.
