Increase in single men allowance
KATHMANDU: JULY 10 – The Melauli municipality in the district has decided to increase the allowance being provided as social security for single men or widowers in the municipality.
The municipality had been providing Rs. 1,500 per month to the single men and it has now been increased to Rs. 2,000 per month, deputy Mayor Radha Ojha said.
The social security allowance that is being provided for the past three years is given to widowers between 50 to 60 years old. “Like single women, single men also suffer financial problems, hence we decided to include the men as well to help ease their daily livelihood, Ojha said.
There are currently 88 men who are benefitting from the single men allowance in Melauli. “The allowance has made our life easier,” said Shanker Dutt Bhatt, a single man from ward no. 9 of the municipality.
Likewise, for the new fiscal year, the municipality has also increased the social security allowance for orphan children. There are currently 19 children who have lost both their parent and getting a monthly social security allowance from the municipality.
