KATHMANDU: JULY 9 – The meeting of the UML task force has been held continuously since the 21st of this July. In order to resolve the internal disputes within the UML, the 10-member task force formed on May 22 has been reactivated and the members have been meeting up to 2/3 times a day. However, the members have not been able to make any concrete decision so far. The task force, which managed to find the two top leaders (Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal), has done little more than that.

Members of the task force called Thursday evening’s discussion “decisive.” However, after the same discussion, Ghanshyam Bhusal, a member of the negotiating team formed on behalf of the other side, said, “We have not made any progress in the last 10 days.” Subashchandra Nemwang, the coordinator of the negotiating team formed on behalf of the establishment party, said, “Consensus will be finalized from today’s meeting of the task force.” Will the task force, which did not enter into the subject on Thursday, reach an agreement today? That remains to be seen.

The members of the negotiating team formed on behalf of the other side are of the view that the establishment side has started presenting itself in a softer manner. One of the members told Makalu Khabar, “They have presented themselves in a soft manner. There is also a possibility of reaching an agreement. Our proposal is that all their one-sided decisions since 7 March should be overturned.

In an earlier meeting, Leader Nepal had demanded equal status in the party with party president Oli. However, Oli has not yet commented. Leader Nepal has been saying that Oli should be released from the post of Prime Minister and Chairman. Leader Nepal, who has put forward the idea of one person for one post, has been saying that Oli should leave one post.

Leader Nepal, who did not even want to meet Oli, met him on Wednesday night at the request and pressure of leaders close to him. Nepal suspects that Oli is trying to use the talks only as a ploy to separate himself from the opposition alliance. One of the leaders said, “The negotiating team is working, but the problem is not with the negotiating team but outside.” The negotiating team has reached an agreement to run the party in a lawful manner and move it forward from 6 June. But Comrade Madhav asked for his share in running the party equal to Oli, which the negotiating team cannot do. ‘

Chairman Oli wants to convey the message that UML is standing in one place even before the Supreme Court decision. However, the opposition UML has not yet shown the possibility of reconciliation. Leader Nepal, who has been strongly supporting the Congress, UCPN-M, and Rastriya Janamorcha-affiliated alliance, is perceiving the recent decision and move of the founding UML as a forgery.
