UML task force to reach ‘consensus’?
KATHMANDU: JULY 8 – No agreement has yet been reached between the ‘double’ UML, which is moving ahead with parallel activities. The 10-member task force is in constant dialogue with the objective of maintaining party unity through consensus. The meeting of the task force is still being held today. The members of the task force have claimed that an agreement can be reached from today’s meeting. Subashchandra Nemwang, the coordinator of the dialogue team formed on behalf of the founding UML, said, “Looking at the talks held yesterday, an agreement has to be reached today.” We are in talks. Let’s see, today is the time to reach a consensus. ‘
Earlier, a meeting was held between Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal after the talks on Wednesday. No agreement was reached in the one-on-one meeting between Oli and Nepal held at Hotel Marriott after 7 pm. During the meeting, Chairman Oli demanded the withdrawal of the signature, but Nepal remained unresponsive. After the meeting, leader Surendra Pandey said, “No agreement was reached today.” An agreement can be reached tomorrow. ‘
Leader Nemwang said that a consensus could be reached in the task force despite rumors that there was no agreement on party unity between Oli and Nepal on Wednesday evening. Nemwang said there was no point in spreading rumors that the “spread” of consensus-building efforts had not diminished. “Rumors don’t make sense,” Nemwang said. Even if rumors were spread yesterday that there was no agreement between the leaders, it has no meaning. The pace of our efforts to reach a consensus has not diminished. ‘
Leader Nepal has said he will not betray the opposition alliance and has been ignoring Oli’s request to withdraw his signature. Leader Nepal has been strongly supporting the Nepali Congress, Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party (Upendra Yadav faction), Rastriya Janamorcha, and other opposition alliances. Especially after the dissolution of the parliament for the second time, the irritated leader Nepal has not yet shown any change in withdrawing his signature.
