The dark side of Dilip Kumar

KATHMANDU: JULY 7 – After the death of a person, it is not necessary to write only his characteristics. Every person has to be evaluated on the basis of his deeds. I have been reminded that the discussion of Dilip Kumar’s dark side is relevant for Nepalis.

On June 26, 1975, the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India and took away the democratic rights of the people.

She attacked the democracy established by her own father Jawaharlal Nehru 23 years ago. Jaiprakash Narayan, Morarji Desai, and his opposition leaders were jailed. She controlled the media. She applied sterilization and began a campaign of sterilization. Behind all these actions was the ominous role of Indiraputra Sanjay Gandhi.

When the whole of India was in the throes of a crisis, some Bollywood actors organized a grand cultural event to divert the attention of the Indian people from the tragedy. Sanjay Gandhi was made the chief guest at that cultural event.

Its purpose was to preach that the crisis was real. And, actor Dilip Kumar joined Sanjay in that program.

Although Dilip Kumar is a great actor, Dilip Kumar has wielded the wheel of power by standing in support of a black step like a crisis of democratic rights. He had earlier changed the name of Yusuf Khan to Dilip Kumar on the advice of Nehru. I am a fan of Dilip Kumar’s acting, but after the court decision, Indira, who is not even a Member of Parliament, should resign.

Instead, Kishore Kumar’s song was banned on All India Radio and Doordarshan for refusing to sing in favor of the crisis. Films made during the crisis, such as ‘Nasbandi’ and ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, were not allowed to be screened. While many artists stood up against the crisis, Dilip Kumar was walking side by side with Sanjay Gandhi.

As a democrat, I also remember Dilip Kumar’s move. Because the Oli trend is also appearing in Nepal as an incarnation of Indira and this trend is also in danger of creating a crisis to stay in power. Just as Indira had threatened and tempted the court to rule in her favor, Oli did not hesitate to threaten the court.

If Oli imposes a state of emergency to stay in power, we will have artists like Dilip Kumar. Even during the Panchayat period like Komal Oli, the artists who grew up have come out openly, some other artists have already sung the glory of Oli. Dilip Kumar’s tendency to seize power has been seen in history, in every age, in every country.
