KATHMANDU: JULY 5 – Euro 2020 semifinal equation has been completed. Italy is now playing with Spain and England is playing with Denmark for the final entry. The Italian team is also in the spotlight as Italy has sidelined Euro contenders Belgium.

Italy, which has been criticized for failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, is constantly trying to restore its old credibility. After winning the World Cup four times, then-coach Gian Piero Ventura resigned. Former Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini then took charge of the crumbling Italy.

In Mancini’s training, Italy has not only beaten the dust of the fight, but it is also moving forward by breaking its own record by keeping itself undefeated for 32 games. The question is which team will take a break from this momentum in Italy.

Since May 28, 2018, Italy has lost only two games. Euro 2020, which is considered as Mansini’s test, has given one answer after another. Even up to the group stage, Italy was accused of showing smallness by defeating a weaker team. But by sidelining Belgium in the quarterfinals, Italy is responding swiftly to those who say so.

Italy are unbeaten in their last 32 games after winning 100 percent in Euro, 34 goals in 10 games. In the 1930s, Vittorio Pozzo broke Italy’s unbeaten record of 30 games.

He is also a talented designer of football. Mancini is now running a young and experienced team. From 22-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma to 38-year-old Chiellini, they are in the same team with enthusiasm.

A strong defense is the feature of Italy. The Italian Football Association has decided to appoint Mancini as its coach until 2026. Mancini, who has won important titles from the national team in his playing career, is now just two wins away from that drought as a coach. Winning the Euro Cup after 1968 is also a dream come true.

Moving forward to fulfill this dream, Italy is playing against Spain in the semifinals. Three-time Euro winners Spain are also advancing as title contenders this time around. Spain beat Croatia 5-3 to reach the semifinals after beating Switzerland on penalties in the quarterfinals.

Spain will have to wait until the first semi-final of Euro 2020 to take a break from their journey to Italy, which is on the cusp of winning the title with an unbeaten game record or to return home defeated.
