Tanahun: Two killed in landslide, concrete bridge washed away
KATHMANDU: JULY 1 – Two people have been killed in a landslide in Bandipur Village Municipality-3 of Tanahun district. The deceased have been identified as Saraswati Thapa, 30, and Harimaya Basel, 70, of Tamung.
Ward member Harka Bahadur Thapa informed that they died on the spot. According to him, Saraswati’s father-in-law Dil Bahadur Magar, mother-in-law Daurimaya Magar, and brother-in-law Subash Thapa were injured in the landslide. He said four houses were at risk due to the landslide.
The condition of one of the injured is critical. The house was completely destroyed by a landslide. Rescue efforts have been hampered by landslides blocking access to the site.
The bridge over the Chhabdi river washed away
Due to the incessant rain that fell overnight, the concrete bridge of the Chhabdi river connecting diameters 1 and 13 has been washed away. The two wards have been disconnection since this morning after the bridge collapsed.
The local Bishwa Bastola of Bhadgaon informed that the bridge collapsed due to a heavy floods in the Chhabdi river. According to him, some local houses are at risk. He said that there is a possibility of further damage if the flow of water does not decrease further.
Residents of Belbas, Pokhari Bhanjyang, Benikot, Gudi, and other places have been facing transportation problems after the bridge over the Chhabdi River was washed away last night. Vehicles plying on Buddha Singh Marga and Keshavtar Marga have been banned from operating after the bridge collapsed.
