Domestic flights resumes
KATHMANDU: JULY 1 – The country’s domestic flights, which were suspended for epidemic control, have resumed operations after a two-month hiatus. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the regulator, has made a flight schedule to operate 64 daily flights of domestic airlines. The government had imposed a prohibitory order on April 29 to control the epidemic. Domestic flights were suspended from May 3 and international flights from May 6.
Assessing the current state of transition in the event of regular flights being suspended at Tribhuvan International Airport, the flight schedule has been given at 10-minute intervals based on the number of flights operated by the airline before the prohibitory order.
According to Pratap Babu Tiwari, general manager of the airport, Buddha Air has 31, Yeti Airlines has 15, Shree Airlines has 7, 3 flights have been sanctioned for Saurya Airlines and 3 each for the airlines flying to Stock.
The airport will effectively adhere to the health standards/protocols issued by the Government of Nepal and the airport for the safe movement of passengers. A supervision committee has also been formed for this.
Leading domestic carriers Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines, Shree Airlines, Saurya Airlines, and others have stated that they are engaged in non-transit flights by strictly adhering to public health standards.
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation had instructed CAAN to operate domestic flights without increasing the total number of flights by 50 percent from July 1 until further orders.
