Protests erupt after erasing a picture made in honor of ‘Frontliner’
KATHMANDU: JULY 1 – Kathmandu Metropolitan City has erased a picture made in honor of ‘Frontliner’ on the sky bridge of Ratna Park. The image made in honor of those who were at the forefront of the COVID-19 epidemic has been erased by the metropolitan.
Made by four artists and three volunteers with the permission of the ward office of ward no. 28 of the metropolitan, it was erased on Wednesday afternoon. The ward office of ward no. 28 had given permission to Durjang Sherpa to paint. And it took 6 days to complete the painting on June 30.
The artists say the painting was made in honor of those who went out to work while most people were indoors due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The picture showed masked health workers, sanitation workers, police, pilots, journalists, and corpse managers.
There is strong opposition to the metropolitan government’s move to erase the image. This act has been opposed by the people including artists and volunteers. They say that by erasing the picture, the metropolitan has insulted the frontliner, art, and hard work.
