Melamchi floods destroy police office

KATHMANDU: JUNE 19 – The Area Police Office in Helambu Municipality of Sindhupalchowk has been washed away by the flood in Melamchi River on Friday night. The building collapsed on Saturday morning after the river changed course.

Police constable Indra Adhikari informed that some goods were also spilled along with the building. “In the early days, the kitchen and the toilet were washed away. The building also collapsed due to flooding on Friday night, ‘he said.

According to him, some important items had already been shifted to safer places. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 34.2 million and inaugurated only a few months ago.

The floods have also washed away the building of East Point Academy in Ward No. 4 Gyalthum and cut off hundreds of ropanis of arable land. However, no further human casualties have been reported.
